“If music be the food of love, play on…”
Come join us for a celebration of all things music, chaos and love! This twisted tale of mismatched affections will have you laughing, sighing, and remembering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune that our hearts suffer for the sake of those around us. When all sorts of mischief and mayhem abound in the streets of Illyria, will each lover find their match? Or will some find themselves out at sea?

Please prepare a monologue in the style of the show (Shakespeare/Classical, 60-90 seconds)

Character Descriptions:

Viola/Cesario: a loyal, passionate and quick-witted romantic, the shipwrecked Viola disguises herself to work as a page for Orsino, the Duke of Illyria (before inconveniently falling in love with him).

Olivia: a deeply devoted and resolutely independent woman, Olivia has promised she will not wed until seven years of mourning have passed. That is, of course, until she meets a handsome young page.

Feste: a clever and compassionate Fool that serves in Olivia’s household. In this production, Feste takes on a rather magical quality of popping up in unexpected places to further the story. Must be strong singer - ability to play an instrument preferred.

Malvolio: a peacocking, puritanical steward of Olivia’s household. His prideful distain of the people around him lead to his betrayal and embarrassment, and a certain lack of blood flow to the ankles.

Sir Toby Belch: a lovable drunk and rapscallion, Sir Toby is a relative of Lady Olivia, of whom he is very fond. After being scolded by Malvolio, he hatches a scheme to embarrass him.

Sir Andrew Aguecheek: an unsuccessful suitor of Olivia, Sir Andrew spends most of the play hatching plots and drinking with Sir Toby. A vain and somewhat foolish man, he doesn’t handle rejection well.

Maria: the personal maid to Olivia, Maria is a lovable and friendly woman, all too willing to assist in all manners of mischief (especially when it comes to the upbraiding of Malvolio)

Sebastian: Viola’s adventurous and amorous twin brother. A good natured fellow, he is constantly astounded by the behavior of the people of Illyria seem to already know him upon arrival.

Antonio: a loyal and true sea captain (pirate) and friend of Sebastian. After rescuing the young man, he takes him to Illyria, and is promptly arrested for his troubles.

Officer/Sea Captain: These supporting roles may be cast as one actor or multiple, and may also act as swings/understudies.
